Ivey MBA Admissions Tips (Western Ontario)

GMAT

The typical minimum score is 600.

Work Experience

Quality is valued more than quantity. As a result, there is no minimum duration. The committee is more concerned about what the applicant has accomplished, not how long he took to do it.

Interviews

There can be anywhere from 1-3 interviews.

Essays

Three essays are required.

Examples of essay prompts previously used by Ivey:

  1. What are your professional goals and how will an Ivey MBA help you achieve these goals? (250 words maximum)
  2. During your 12 months in the Program, what impact do you hope to have on your classmates and on their Ivey experience? (250 words maximum)
  3. If you could be a field reporter anywhere in the world, where would you want to go and why? (250 words maximum)

Recommendations

Two to 3 are required.

Other Requirements

The committee is looking for leadership qualities in all aspects of the application, including volunteer work, arts and athletics. Candidates are expected to have at least a B average during their last 2 years of study. ESL applicants must have TOEFL scores.

Process

Only qualified applicants are offered an interview. There may be up to 3 interviews. Financial aid is handled simultaneously with the admissions process.

Financial Aid/Scholarships

Ivey is big on scholarships and awards, but it is strongly advised that applicants apply for early admission, as these have a first-come first-serve basis.

I am happy to share with you that I have been offered a place in the 2010-11 batch of Said Business School, Oxford. The critical input for Chris Coleridge and Tom Kania was very helpful in making my essays more crisp and making my interview presentation sharper. Thank you.
